It’s 2010… Happy 15th Anniversary HEMPOLA^®

The company’s initial study of industrial hemp began in 1993. The launch of HEMPOLA Cold Pressed Hempseed oil in Canada in 1995, was the first of many milestones and innovations. The HEMPOLA trademark was filed in 1996 and is now registered. Taking part in the meetings conducted by Health Canada in 1997/98, to carve out the regulations to allow the growing of hemp in Canada, we are truly pioneers of the industry in Canada.

After our first history-setting harvest of hemp for food in 1998, we undertook our research to determine the best way to cold press hempseed oil. This technology is now an industry standard. HEMPOLA invented hempseed flour in 1999 and unveiled it at the Natural Product Expo in Baltimore, MD that year. That same year, HEMPOLA launched its line of Omega 3 Salad Dressings… way ahead of the current Omega 3 marketplace.

Knowing that hemp oil was the oil of choice for the paint industry pre-prohibition (early 1930s), HEMPOLA began the development and introduced HempWood™ Finishing Oil in 2000… pure, non-toxic oil used to finish wood surfaces. It was also in 2000, the company purchased and moved to its current farm base. It took from 2000 to 2002 to complete what we believe to be, the world’s first hemp straw octagon home… one of the early “green” homes.

Today, we produce our products in three separate locations; all specialized. These facilities are all rural based. We support rural economies… that’s where our farmers are based… and “Farmers Feed Cities.” We also support EFAO (Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario), and are a member.
